Flagstaff

After some more Arizona interstates (where the speed limit is 75 and there is no helmet law) I got to Flagstaff and changed my rear tire that was starting to look tired after 15k kms.
I checked into the Flagstaff KOA campground. It's like the Avenue Of The Giants here, only with pickups, buses, campers and trailers; all of them massive! But the good news is that there's an "SAQ" across the road :-)
After breakfast in the old town just off route 66, I headed North for the Grand Canyon. I chose the south rim as it was closer and promised a route along the edge. Unfortunately this is the busiest time for visitors and the road gets pretty congested.
Before leaving the canyon, I had a quick hot dog lunch (how American is that?), rode to Tuba City and stayed in a hotel on a Hopi  reservation.
On the way, the weather started getting rough: a little rain and really high winds. At one point I was driving through a sandstorm with about 20 meters visibility. Think snow storm, only grittier.

    1. Cool! Let me know what that's like and if the road allows for nice views

  2. You should do the North Rim if ever out that way. It was way greener than your pics of the South Rim. I don't think there's a bad road up there for views! We went up to four corners and turned around and headed across northern NM. (Hwy 64 to Hwy 550) It was beautiful!
I plan on doing another trip out there next year. If only there was a way to skip the TX panhandle! (Boring and windy!)
